Apples and honey for a sweet new year. Dip slices of the fruit in the honey or get a round raisin challah and dip a piece of that. We have little jars of honey that our girls gifted us from college years spent in France and Germany. One is back in the States for her senior year, the other still in Germany getting a masters.
In either case, once again, as empty-nesters we’re celebrating this season of awe and repentance with holiday wishes via Skype and email.
But I'm glad they have the courage to travel and build lives in different cities and cultures. I've learned a lot about going after what you want from my kids. Still, when the phrase l’dor va dor (from generation to generation) crops up in the service over the next few days, I’ll try to keep from crying, though I’ll probably have to grab a tissue and pretend I have allergies.
