We saved the Supreme Court, pro-choice and contraception. The obscene, secret spending of billionaires ultimately did not swing the election. We beat back attempts at voter suppression. In fact, Americans were willing to spend hours upon hours in line to do their civic duty.
Science and reality exist again. And have I got a real binder of women for you now - Elizabeth Warren, Claire McCaskell, Tammy Baldwin, Mazie Hirono, Tammy Duckworth, Heidi Heitkamp. A winning percentage of the electorate wasn’t taken in by Romney’s lies and the GOP’s fear mongering.
Obamacare will remain the law of the land and will expand in the coming years. The first Africa American president was reelected, meaning 2008 wasn’t a fluke. Ryan’s budget and his view of the world were repudiated. The safety net – Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security – was saved from
extinction. A Romney administration won’t get credit for what will be a continuing Obama economic
recovery.
Marriage equality marches forward and perhaps we can still turn around the climbing graph on global warming. Wall Street and bank reform, college accessibility, humane and sane immigration reform, legalization of marijuana in Colorado and Washington state. People have shown with their vote that government does indeed have an important role in their lives.
A new Great Society, New Deal II? FDR and LBJ are doing a happy dance in the end zone.
