Topanga Bluegrass Festival, Los Angeles May 2013

I read so many blogs with good stuff that I decided to share them on Fridays. Photography, travel, books, clothing, art journals, lectures, politics, whatever. I’ll be collecting throughout the week and posting for your weekend reading pleasure. Enjoy the post … and your weekend.

Writers' Notebooks: A Junkyard of the Mind from BBC News

From 99U, Elizabeth Gilbert on How to Find Your Creative Home

Pen Paper Ink Letter brings you Starter Pencil Setups

Match your wardrobe with your notebooks from Office Supply Geek with Tattersall Journals

The Well Appointed Desk turns a blank notebook into a lined notebook with templates of lined pages to slip behind the blank page.

Also from 99U, Sell your art? Then sell yourself first

Something from one of my favorite writing teachers, Anne Lamott. Don't botther being a people pleaser.

Check your dog's treat. If they come from China, could be dangerous.

Mary Stewart, one of the first to mix romance and suspense, died at the age of 97. I read several of her books when I was a teenager, especially the Merlin trilogy.

Leo Batauta of ZenHabits, writes about coming back from a setback.

So what if you're not attractive. It's your uniqueness ultimately may rank you higher.

Democracy in India, recent elections in India show you how much effort it takes to keep democracy alive.

Food in LA segment, another one of my creativemornings talks, this time about how quirky marketing and just plain going for it can launch a restaurant.

Reporting from the war zone - with the anniversary of World War I in the news this year, here's a bit on the convergence of technology/photography/newspaper and war reportage. War correspondents - nothing changes ...

BBC Blast from the Past on fountain pens. I've developed an interest in fountain pens. Not usually a trend follower but here I'm riding the crest of this current wave.

PG Wodehouse in the Guardian book blog. I love all things English and last year read a ton of Wodehouse. We all must have guilty pleasures and English history and its class society is mine.

One of my favorite sites, Unclutterer, and the problem of digital photo management. What about paper photo management? Like shoe boxes. Tons and tons of shoe boxes. Check out my closets.

When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.

I usually start my mornings with a CreativeMornings talk. Here's one about 'infusing play into work projects.'

Anticipating a vacation can be almost as much fun as the trip itself, according to an article in the New York Times Travel Section. Here's how to learn how to do it.

Learn something from comics, or at least have a good laugh.

Two of my fave gurus in one shot - Austin Kleon is interviewed by James Altucher.

Seth Godin Should Do My Daughter's Graduation Keynote

College Drop Off, 2010

Yes, this is going to be one of those maternal weepy posts about the kids growing up and all that. So indulge me. We dropped her off what seemed like a short time ago and in a few weeks we'll go bring her back. I can't cry much as I type this because my mascara will run and I have a meeting to rush off to.

Susan Eisenhower is going to give the keynote speech. I'm sure she's a lovely person and will have fine things to tell the graduates and I'll make sure there are tissues in my camera bag and all that.

But I discovered Seth Godin a year ago - yeah late to the trendy party as usual - and just listening to a few of his talks is really all my younger daughter and her post grad sister need to get going in this world.

Seth's GoodLifeProject ~  interview

and his Creative Mornings ~  talk

and The Unmistakable Creative podcast - interview

Plus an article from Medium about landing your dream job even if you went to anything other than one of the top ten colleges.

So I'm collecting a few talks and interviews by one of my current heroes and preparing to help my girl start the next stage of her life.  Congratulations, sweetie - we love you so much and are so very, very proud of you..
